Why Harps for Israel?
Something about the harp bridges heaven and earth to help accomplish G-d’s purposes. For this reason, Harps for Israel is dedicated to fostering wider appreciation and use of harps for praise, prayer and intercession throughout Israel today.
Has there ever been a time when Israel has needed the distinctive sound and prophetic power of the harp more than today? Enemies surround her and rattle their swords daily. Throughout the land, the sounds of false religion resound from minarets five times each day.
Assaulted by these sounds, the spirits of many Israelis—especially young people—are plagued by unrest, anxiety and confusion, not unlike King Saul in his day.
Harps are frequently mentioned throughout Scripture, and are used often to worship and prophesy before the Lord, as well as to bring peace to troubled souls. Click here to see a list of Biblical scriptures that mention the harp — here are a few of them:
-
I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the harp. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the LORD is with him. 1 Sam 16:18
-
David, together with the commanders of the army, set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun for the ministry of prophesying, accompanied by harps, lyres and cymbals. 1 Chronicles 25:1
-
Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. Ps 33:2-3
-
It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. Ps 92:1-3
Harp music possesses deep spiritual resonance as well as simply being beautiful to hear. The traditional Israeli Nevel harp is made with 22 strings corresponding to the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet so that words can literally be spelled out musically on these harps. Alternatively, any music played on such a harp carries more profound significance than the audible sounds of the strings themselves because each note releases something deeper, connected with innermost meanings of the Hebrew letters.
Some people are already praying for Israel by spelling out words from Scriptures and prayers on their harp strings. Others simply play familiar songs or as they are led by the Spirit of G-d. However one is led to play the harp, its unique qualities of warfare, prophesy and healing are urgently needed to change the atmosphere over Israel in these days.
Harps for Israel provides harps to the faithful in the Land who are called to walk in the footsteps of King David and King Jehosephat to sing songs of rejoicing, intercession and triumph!
You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest til he
establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth. Isaiah 62:6-7
